Why Your Gift Matters So Much
By the time our kids come to UMHC, many lack hope. They long for normalcy: to celebrate birthdays, holidays, proms and graduations. Some need specialized medical care, behavioral treatments, and intensive educational coaching. Some come from truly shattered homes and need to create a new definition of what family is to them. Many have never known the simple joys of being in healthy relationships with others.
Your gift affords the kids a full-range of care—beyond food and a bed to sleep in. Contributions provide the resources our kids need to receive personal counseling, attend emotional support programs, participate in athletic and extracurricular events, and attend community events and recreation activities. Staff not only has a duty of care but, in fact, do care about the residents. Recreation is very important to the kids and funds are always needed to provide opportunities for them to go to the movies, visit a swimming pool or park, have a new experience, and help them to understand what normalcy is in their lives.
As with many government programs now, reimbursements are simply not enough to cover actual costs. Contract funds are used to provide food and cover housing costs, but UMHC relies on charitable gifts to exceed those basic needs.
Our mission demands that we stand in continual need on behalf of the kids we serve and for those who will come. The Home relies on friends and donors like you to fill the hope gap. Can we count you among them?
